SERVICES, ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS: |
The MS Society Kingston Chapter offers members a variety of services
to assist in member education, communication, personal functioning, accessibility
and well-being.
OFFICE: The Kingston office is located
at 1080 Gardiners Rd.Unit 3 Kingston, Ontario and is open from 8:00 AM
until 4:00 PM each week day except for statutory holidays. The office
has a full complement of brochures and booklets that can be mailed out
to newly diagnosed patients. The office is staffed by a full time secretary
who can be reached at 384-8500.
CLIENT SERVICES: A volunteer member of the
board is available to discuss particular needs of patients and whether
the Chapter might consider funding a needed product or service or other
assistance for the individual. Call the office for more information.
SOCIAL ACTION: The Chapter has a
volunteer member of the Board who takes up major issues with appropriate
authorities that concern the well-being of members. Such things as ease
of access, visibility and safety are regular concerns of the Social Action
Coordinator.
EDUCATION: A volunteer board member
conducts research and runs regular workshops and seminars for newly diagnosed
patients, schools and medical groups. The coordinator also surveys the
literature and internet for new drug treatment trials and reports these
in the periodical publication called PATHFINDER.
NEWSLETTER:
A subscription to the Newsletter OUTREACH is provided for all members
for a nominal annual fee of $10.00. Upcoming news of all kinds is reported
here and members can submit articles relating to MS issues for sharing
with others.
EVENTS:
The Chapter sponsors a variety of events for members including
an Annual General Meeting (AGM), a Volunteer Appreciation Night, Medical
Update Seminars and a Christmas Party for members and their families.
FUNDRAISING:
The Chapter is active in raising funds to help fund the battle against
multiple sclerosis. The Annual Walkathon raises money by bringing members
together for scenic city walks of varying distances. The Annual Golf Tournament
brings armed forces members together for a day of fun and prizes on the
links, and many other activities such as curling keeps the MS Society
active in the community.
